The Airway and Lung Course 2024 — emergency intubation skills and acute respiratory care in 21 lectures
The Airway and Lung Course 2024 pairs two things every emergency clinician has to get right: securing a difficult airway and managing the patient who arrives short of breath. Eight long airway sessions, from anatomy and patient safety through laryngoscopy technique to the surgical airway, are followed by thirteen focused talks on pneumonia, asthma, COPD, ARDS, pulmonary embolism and chest trauma. Almost 18 hours of teaching come as video, audio and PDF files.

What you’ll be able to do
- Plan a safer emergency intubation using an incremental approach to direct and video laryngoscopy
- Adapt technique for paediatric laryngoscopy and anatomically challenging patients
- Know when endoscopy helps and when to commit to a surgical airway
- Set ventilation and oxygenation targets in ARDS and severe asthma or COPD
- Work up and treat pulmonary embolism, haemoptysis and chest trauma in the emergency department
- Separate croup, bronchiolitis and paediatric pneumonia in children with respiratory distress
Inside the course
Mastering the emergency airway
The opening block runs for about 11 hours. It starts with an overview, airway anatomy and a long session on patient safety, then spends nearly three hours on a stepwise method for direct and video laryngoscopy before moving to children, endoscopy, special clinical challenges and the surgical airway.
Respiratory infections, adult and paediatric
Shorter talks cover URIs and acute bronchitis, pneumonia, influenza and COVID, croup and bronchiolitis, paediatric pneumonia, and a session on uncommon infections and sarcoidosis.
The Airway and Lung Course emergencies
The final lectures tackle acute asthma and COPD, ventilation strategy in ARDS, aspiration, haemoptysis with acute chest syndrome, pulmonary embolism and blunt or penetrating chest trauma.
