Jason Smithson’s two-day protocol for minimally invasive ceramic restorations — preparation to cementation
In Cosmedent Minimally Invasive Ceramic Restorations: From Concepts to Completion, UK restorative dentist Jason Smithson walks the full ceramic workflow across two recorded days and roughly nine hours. Fourteen lessons run from enamel and dentin biomechanics through partial-coverage and veneer preparation to adhesive cementation, with tooth structure preserved at every step.

What you’ll be able to do
- Choose indirect onlays and partial coverage over full crowns when they fit
- Design smooth preparations that avoid stress concentrators
- Apply immediate dentin sealing and endo-crown protocols
- Prepare anterior veneers and single centrals with reliable provisionals
- Bond ceramics with the right luting cement and surface treatment
Inside the course
Day one: foundations and preparations
The first module builds the theory of partial coverage, enamel and dentin biomechanics, cusp coverage and preparation design, then demonstrates molar preparation, impressions, stents and temporisation.
Day two: veneers and crowns
The second module is preparation-led: anterior teeth with provisional veneers, vertical crown preparation with knife-edge margins, and a full single-central workflow through to cementation.
Materials that make the bond last
The course closes on how to choose a luting cement and which surface treatments actually work — air abrasion, acid etching and silanisation — the factors that decide whether the restoration holds.
