NeurologyVideo course2023
Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Neuromuscular Disorders 2023 — from nerve conduction basics to myopathy, in 41 lectures
Electrodiagnostic Medicine and Neuromuscular Disorders 2023 starts where every EMG lab starts, with sensory and motor conduction studies and needle technique, then moves steadily out into the clinic: focal neuropathies, plexopathies, motor neuron disease, polyneuropathy, the neuromuscular junction and muscle. Twenty faculty deliver 41 lectures of roughly 30 to 45 minutes each, and several talks are framed around a presenting complaint, such as winging of the scapula, diplopia or cramps, rather than a diagnosis.

What you’ll be able to do
- Interpret motor unit potentials and recruitment on needle EMG, and use repetitive stimulation and single-fibre studies
- Localise focal mononeuropathies, plexopathies and radiculopathies in arm and leg
- Work up generalised or multifocal weakness in a logical order
- Recognise classic and atypical ALS, and tailor myasthenia gravis treatment to severity
- Narrow the causes of toxic, inflammatory and systemic neuropathies by phenotype
- Separate the main groups of muscle channelopathies and the causes of rhabdomyolysis
Inside the course
Neurophysiology toolkit
Six technique lectures cover conduction studies, spontaneous and voluntary EMG activity, junction testing and autonomic function, with a separate talk on peripheral nerve ultrasound.
Electrodiagnostic Medicine for focal and generalised problems
Upper-limb mononeuropathies, brachial plexus, the leg and lumbosacral roots, then complaint-based sessions on weakness, facial palsy, myotonia, diplopia and cramps.
Nerve, junction and motor neuron disease
ALS and its atypical relatives, spinal muscular atrophy, Charcot-Marie-Tooth, Guillain-Barré, CIDP, cancer-related and toxic neuropathies, myasthenia, Lambert-Eaton and botulism.
Muscle and special topics
Dystrophies, congenital, metabolic, mitochondrial and inflammatory myopathies, the floppy infant, neuromuscular mimics and rehabilitation planning.
Built for
- NeurologistsA complete neuromuscular refresher alongside hands-on EMG interpretation.
- Physiatrists (PM&R)Electrodiagnosis plus a closing talk on rehabilitation of these disorders.
- Neurology and PM&R residents and fellowsA structured syllabus to accompany EMG rotations and board study.
