Filler and toxin complications, session by session — vascular occlusion, vision loss, infection, nodules and malar oedema
The 2024 Aesthetic Safety & Complications Summit captures the CMAC 2024 conference on adverse events in aesthetic practice in eight sessions lasting 11 h 44 min. The seven speakers are Cormac Convery, Emma Davies, Patricia Barrera, Gillian Murray, Leonie Schelke, Steven F. Weiner and Lee R. Walker, and the talks range from arterial occlusion and ischaemic vision loss to infection, inflammatory nodules, lower-face safety and toxin for scars.

What you’ll be able to do
- Recognise and act on filler-related vascular occlusion, including atypical presentations
- Understand why the nose carries particular risk of skin necrosis, blindness and stroke
- Diagnose infection earlier, with attention to mycobacterial cases
- Separate nodules and inflammatory reactions using ultrasound of the facial layers
- Anticipate malar oedema and factor TMJ function into lower-face treatments
Inside the course
Emergencies (sessions 1–2)
After the conference opening, the programme goes straight to occlusion and then to ischaemia and sight loss, using an unusual case to show that vascular events can reach well beyond the skin.
Treatment planning and infection (sessions 3–4)
Lower-face work is examined through muscle, volume loss, laxity and masseter slimming, with a warning about undiagnosed TMJ disorders. The infection session covers diagnostic difficulty, a rise in mycobacterial cases in the UK and harm from untrained providers.
Nodules, oedema and supportive care (sessions 5–8)
Ultrasound is used to relate HA nodules to the SMAS; malar swelling is traced to lymphatic disruption and product choice; one speaker presents a toxin protocol for scars. A Q&A closes the meeting, including discussion of a filler linked to higher inflammatory event rates.

Before you buy
Is it a surgical course despite the plastic surgery category?
No. Almost all content concerns injectable complications — fillers and botulinum toxin — rather than operative surgery.
Do the session titles match what is discussed?
Not always. The first session includes the conference welcome and acknowledgements, and “Safer Injection Practices” concentrates largely on malar oedema.
Is there overlap with other complication courses here?
Tim Pearce’s Dermal Filler Complications course covers similar ground in a structured single-author format; this summit offers a multi-speaker, UK-focused perspective.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
