Larry Wolford’s surgical protocols — jaw osteotomies, occlusal plane rotation, total joint replacement and airway surgery
Texas A&M clinical professor Larry Wolford, the originator of many widely used jaw and joint procedures, compresses decades of practice into Orthognathic and TMJ surgery. Seven lessons and roughly six hours cover chin and mandibular osteotomies, maxillary surgery with nasal airway improvement, surgery-first and occlusal plane change, condylar hyperplasia, condylar resorption and total joint prostheses, trauma, tumours, ankylosis and craniofacial syndromes, and a long session on sleep apnoea.

What you’ll be able to do
- Understand technique and relapse risks in sagittal split, subapical and chin surgery
- Decide when counter-clockwise rotation of the maxillomandibular complex is indicated
- Follow Wolford’s protocols for type 1 and type 2 condylar hyperplasia
- Recognise adolescent internal condylar resorption and reactive arthritis on MRI
- Plan combined jaw and soft tissue surgery for obstructive sleep apnoea
Inside the course
Orthognathic fundamentals
Early lessons move through genioplasty with bone or implants, mandibular osteotomies, third molar timing, distraction osteogenesis, virtual surgical planning, maxillary expansion, turbinate management and aftercare, then weigh the risks of a surgery-first approach and the functional and aesthetic effects of rotating the occlusal plane.
The joint
Wolford explains disc repositioning with Mitek anchors (the Dallas procedure), the classification and treatment of condylar overgrowth, why condyles resorb in teenagers and adults, and his indications for custom total joint prostheses planned virtually.
Pathology and syndromes
Trauma, tumours and ankylosis are each presented with MRI diagnosis and treatment strategy, followed by hemifacial microsomia, Treacher Collins syndrome, juvenile idiopathic arthritis and autoimmune disease.
Airway
The closing lesson, nearly two hours long, covers apnoea classification, obstruction zones, cephalometric risk factors, appliances, adenoid and turbinate surgery, modified UPPP, glossectomy for macroglossia and jaw advancement to open the posterior airway.
Built for
- Oral and maxillofacial surgeonsDirect access to protocols developed by one of the field’s best-known joint surgeons.
- Orthodontists in surgical casesA clearer grasp of what the surgeon can offer and why joint health must be checked first.

Before you buy
How deep can six hours go across so many procedures?
Most lessons run 35–50 minutes, so each topic is an overview of Wolford’s protocol with cases rather than a full step-by-step operative video.
Is it relevant to general dentists?
Mainly for referral knowledge; the content is surgical and aimed at maxillofacial surgeons and orthodontists.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
