Soft tissue lasers for gingival esthetics, periodontitis and tongue-tie — physics, settings and clinical protocols
Kenneth Luk, Manaf Taher Agha and laser pioneer Robert A. Convissar teach Peridontal Laser Surgery: Optimizing the Pink Aesthetic in six lessons lasting 6 h 03 min. The course starts with how laser energy interacts with enamel, dentine and soft tissue, then applies it to gingival contouring and crown lengthening, laser-assisted periodontal therapy, frenectomy in children, depigmentation and the 445 nm blue diode.

What you’ll be able to do
- Match wavelength, power, pulse duration and frequency to the tissue you want to cut or coagulate
- Perform laser gingivectomy, gingivoplasty and crown lengthening and know their contraindications
- Run a laser-assisted periodontal protocol — debridement, pocket decontamination, flap or flapless surgery
- Diagnose and release tongue-tie and labial frena in children with the PEEL approach
- Remove gingival hyperpigmentation with ablative or high-speed non-ablative techniques
- Use the 445 nm blue laser for frenectomy, gingivectomy, oral lesions and photobiomodulation
Inside the course
Laser–tissue interaction
The first lesson covers absorption, scattering and heat, the properties of laser light, ablation versus coagulation versus biostimulation, selective photothermolysis and recent modalities — the basis for choosing safe parameters.
Pink esthetics and periodontal therapy
Gingival symmetry, contour, colour and texture are analysed before filmed contouring and crown lengthening cases. A separate lesson reviews the evidence on lasers in periodontitis and explains selection of laser systems for each scenario.
Frenum release in children
The longest lesson, almost an hour and a half, discusses the prevalence and effects of tongue-tie in newborns, the PEEL criteria (peristalsis, elevation, extension, lateralization), step-by-step release and a literature review.
Depigmentation and the blue diode
Classification of oral pigmentation leads to direct ablation and a fast non-ablative method with a digitally pulsed diode and blue laser, including delicate zones like the central papilla. The last lesson profiles 445 nm light and its surgical and PBM uses.

Before you buy
Which lasers does it assume I have?
Several wavelengths are compared, but the clinical protocols lean toward diode lasers, especially the 445 nm blue diode.
Does it cover hard tissue work such as cavity preparation?
Only as background physics — the procedures taught are all soft tissue and periodontal.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
