Joint-first occlusion from five Japanese clinicians — Roth goals, Kuwata’s disclusion and Slavicek’s digital workflow
Sadao Sato, Kazumi Ikeda, Shimpei Sonoda, Satoshi Aoki and Taiichi Maekawa share the ten lectures of Predictable Functional Occlusion: Roth Philosophy, Masahiro Kuwata’s Protocols, and the TMJ-First Concept, which run 7 hours 40 minutes. The course ties orthodontics and prosthodontics to joint health: seated condylar position and disc status, functionally discluded occlusion and selective adjustment, occlusal plane and vertical dimension control, and a virtual-articulator route to sequential occlusion.

What you’ll be able to do
- Plan orthodontics from a seated condylar position using Roth treatment goals
- Assess the joint with history, mounted casts, MRI and CBCT before moving teeth
- Stage disc displacement and use stabilisation splints before and during treatment
- Carry out trim-off and add-on occlusal adjustment following Kuwata’s disclusion concept
- Control occlusal plane and vertical dimension, including MEAW-based pre-prosthetic leveling
- Simulate dynamic occlusion with a virtual articulator, digital facebow and jaw tracking
Inside the course
TMJ-First orthodontics
Ikeda, director of the Roth Williams Center in Japan, sets the joint as the starting point: disc anatomy and function, CR registration, before-and-after imaging and the effect of a stable jaw position on mandibular growth.
Functionally discluded occlusion
Two lectures follow Masahiro Kuwata’s principles, from his first full-mouth case to static and dynamic tooth relationships, the “area of centric” and why restored teeth need immediate disclusion.
Sato’s gnathology and the reference position
Short sessions on internal derangement, arthrography, the RP-ThP concept and how flat or steep posterior occlusal planes relate to TMD risk, then orthodontic occlusal construction as TMD treatment.
Diagnosis, reconstruction and digital sequencing
Cephalometric and articulator analysis, strategic leveling with MEAW and follow-up after reconstruction lead into Maekawa’s Slavicek-based digital protocol: condylography, virtual dentures and cusp-fossa design, ending with Q&A.

Before you buy
Are all ten lectures of similar length?
No. Several run over an hour, while a few Sato-school sessions last only 18 to 28 minutes and act as concise overviews.
Do I need jaw-tracking hardware to benefit?
Only the last lecture relies on digital tools such as condylography; the rest works with conventional records and articulators.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
