USCAP Pancreatobiliary Pathology from A to Z 2025 — cytology, frozen section and resection diagnosis in nine case-based talks
USCAP Pancreatobiliary Pathology from A to Z: A Pancreatobiliary Pathology Society Crash Course 2025 is a joint USCAP and PbPath programme, first released on 11 June 2025, that follows a pancreatic or biliary specimen from the grossing bench and frozen-section room to the final cytology or histology report. Five recognised experts, among them Olca Basturk, Michelle Reid and Yoh Zen, work through solid and cystic pancreatic tumours, neuroendocrine neoplasms, the ampulla, bile ducts and gallbladder. Every talk has its own presentation video and handout.

What you’ll be able to do
- Recognise the cytological and histological range of solid and cystic pancreatic lesions
- Apply current terms, classification and management guidance for IPMN, MCN, IOPN and ITPN
- Grade pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms with the updated system and choose immunostains wisely
- Diagnose biliary precursors such as BilIN and IPN-B, and carcinoma on small samples
- Gross pancreatobiliary resections properly and give reliable frozen-section answers
- Separate inflammatory changes in bile ducts and gallbladder from true neoplasia
Inside the course
From the grossing station to the frozen section
Huamin Wang gives two practical talks on handling Whipple and other pancreatobiliary resections and on intraoperative consultation, the areas where errors are most costly to the surgeon.
Pancreatic tumours in resections and FNA
Olca Basturk covers ductal adenocarcinoma, mesenchymal and secondary tumours, pancreatitis, and intraductal or cystic lesions. Michelle Reid mirrors that split in cytology, first for solid masses and then for cystic and intraductal lesions sampled by FNA or small biopsy.
USCAP Pancreatobiliary Pathology from A to Z: neuroendocrine and biliary disease
Grace Kim explains the WHO view of pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms, including grade-discordant cases, while Yoh Zen takes the ampulla of Vater, extrahepatic bile ducts and gallbladder through inflammatory, dysplastic and malignant lesions.
Built for
- Surgical pathologistsUp-to-date grading and terminology for a notoriously tricky organ system.
- CytopathologistsTwo dedicated talks on EUS-FNA and small biopsy of pancreatobiliary lesions.
- Pathology residents and fellowsA compact, case-driven primer from grossing to sign-out.
