Autogenous bone grafting with the Khoury split bone technique — from oblique line harvesting to the esthetic zone
Heidelberg oral surgeon Frank Zastrow teaches Biological Bone Augmentation in six lessons lasting a little over five hours. He works through the BBA Concept and Prof. Fouad Khoury’s split bone approach, starting with a low-risk way to take bone from the external oblique line and ending with lateral grafting in severely resorbed ridges. Six soft tissue procedures, including the Kazanjian vestibuloplasty and the palatal pedicled flap, are covered alongside the hard tissue work.

What you’ll be able to do
- Pick a grafting method for each defect using the CCARD classification
- Take autogenous bone from the external oblique line while keeping nerve risk minimal
- Rebuild lateral ridge width with the split bone and bone core techniques
- Create attached mucosa around implants with the Kazanjian vestibuloplasty
- Prevent and manage graft exposure and peri-implantitis
- Combine hard and soft tissue grafting in the esthetic zone
Inside the course
A decision system before the scalpel
The opening hour sorts defects into those inside and outside the ridge contour and sets out when vital bone chips alone are enough, when substitutes and GBR make sense, and when the split bone technique is the answer.
Harvesting and lateral grafting in both jaws
Zastrow shows his step-by-step harvesting protocol from the oblique line, then uses the bone for lateral augmentation in mandible and maxilla. A later lesson adds a layering approach that mixes vital chips with substitute material for the atrophic upper jaw.
Soft tissue, complications and the front of the mouth
Flap design, muscle separation and suturing for the vestibuloplasty are followed by a session on antibiotics, hygiene, exposed grafts and implantoplasty. The final lesson looks at how the palatal pedicled flap supports predictable results in compromised anterior sites.
About Frank Zastrow
He founded the BBA Academy and the REAL BONE BUILDERS community, worked as a research associate in maxillofacial surgery at Heidelberg University, and runs a private clinic in Wiesloch, Germany.

Before you buy
Does Zastrow rely on bone substitutes or on the patient’s own bone?
His concept favours vital autogenous bone, but he explains the specific situations where substitutes and GBR still have a place.
How much of the teaching deals with soft tissue?
Six soft tissue techniques are presented, with a full lesson on the Kazanjian vestibuloplasty and the palatal pedicled flap featured in the esthetic zone session.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
