Finishing zirconia and e.max, then thermoforming and digital orthotics — 16 practical lessons
Bridging chairside finishing and lab technology, Digital Dentistry: From Polishing to Thermoplastics gathers four focused modules and sixteen short lessons into just over two hours. Kevin Kwiecien, Bob Winter and Gary DeWood cover how to adjust and polish two ceramic systems, how to shape appliances with a pressure-and-vacuum unit, and how a digital workflow produces intra-oral orthotics.

What you’ll be able to do
- Adjust and polish zirconia restorations inside and outside the mouth
- Refine e.max restorations with the right instrumentation
- Use a pressure and vacuum thermoforming unit to build appliances
- Fabricate bite planes, formers and soft guards from thermoplastic sheet
- Follow a digital workflow for intra-oral orthotic appliances
Inside the course
Polishing two ceramic systems
The first two modules treat zirconia and e.max separately, walking through the material background and then the extra- and intra-oral adjustment and polishing sequences that leave a smooth, kind-to-tissue surface.
Thermoforming with a pressure-vacuum unit
Using a Ministar device, you fabricate an anterior bite plane, a putty former, a prep-guide former and a soft appliance, learning how pressure moulding yields precise, anatomy-matched pieces.
Digital orthotic workflow
The final module runs from data gathering and digital records to appliance choice and a digital anterior bite plane, and it is honest about where the dentist-lab digital workflow still has limits.
About the instructors
Kevin Kwiecien is a restorative educator and former Spear Education faculty member; Gary DeWood is a long-time private practitioner and occlusion-focused clinician. Bob Winter rounds out the teaching team.
