When to extract and how to close the space — seven orthodontists on extraction mechanics, TPAs, miniscrews and lingual braces
Seven lessons and just over eight hours make up Extractions in orthodontics: aligners, braces, microimplants, transpalatal arches, taught by a seven-strong international faculty led by Marco Rosa (full list in the specifications). Together they tackle the extraction decision itself, then the biomechanics of closing the gap, from serial extraction in the mixed dentition to adult premolar cases, hinge and transpalatal mechanics, skeletal anchorage and lingual appliances.

What you’ll be able to do
- Choose between sliding and friction-free mechanics and between one- and two-step retraction
- Set the ratio of anterior retraction to posterior protraction and reinforce anchorage with miniscrews
- Plan serial extraction and germectomy in growing patients, or decide against them
- Select which premolars to remove in Class II division 1 and division 2 cases
- Calculate hinge position and force with transpalatal arch designs, including molar mesialisation
- Close extraction spaces efficiently with lingual fixed appliances and plan retention
Inside the course
Mechanics first
The opening 90-minute lesson sets out how to control tooth movement during space closure and walks through cases treated with one-step retraction, two-step retraction and maximum anchorage from miniscrews.
Children and adolescents
Serial extraction, expansion, leeway space, slicing primary teeth and germectomy timing are weighed against a non-extraction pathway, with appliances for maxillary expansion and early recession correction.
Adults and complex anchorage
Lessons on maxillary premolar extraction, vertical control, hinge mechanics, clinic-made springs and combined TPA and microimplant set-ups address demanding adult space closure, while a separate lesson plans severe Class I crowding from diagnosis to retention.
Lingual and digital workflows
Two lessons cover case selection, set-ups, torque control and wire geometry in lingual orthodontics, faster yet safe space closure, robotic wire bending, hybrid finishing and relapse.

Before you buy
How much is about aligners?
Aligner therapy appears in the course aims, but none of the seven lessons is dedicated to it; the focus is on fixed labial and lingual appliances, TPAs and miniscrews.
Are clinical cases shown?
Yes, most lessons end with step-by-step analysis of treated extraction cases.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
