Mayo Clinic Interventional Cardiology Board Review 2024 — the cath lab, exam-ready
The Mayo Clinic Interventional Cardiology Board Review 2024, released on 4 December 2024, walks through the interventional boards the way a cath lab day runs: drugs and radiation safety, antithrombotic strategy, plaque imaging and physiology, PCI in STEMI and NSTE-ACS, complex lesions and the full structural-heart menu. It holds 39 lectures and 8 faculty panels from 25 Mayo Clinic faculty, aimed at fellows and cardiologists sitting the ABIM interventional cardiology exam.

What you’ll be able to do
- Weigh bleeding against ischemia with triple and dual antithrombotic therapy after PCI
- Use OCT, IVUS, FFR, iFR and CFR to guide stenting decisions
- Plan reperfusion for STEMI patients at non-PCI hospitals
- Tackle left main, bifurcation, CTO and vein graft disease on the exam
- State indications, complications and outcomes of TAVR and transcatheter mitral repair
- Recognise and manage PCI and structural complications before they cascade
Inside the course
Mayo Clinic Interventional Cardiology Board Review 2024 foundations
Eric Yang opens with two lectures on the drugs you must know, around Malcolm Bell on radiation physics and safety. Antiplatelet therapy, anticoagulation with triple therapy and bleeding management follow, then the biology of chronic and acute coronary syndromes, coronary anomalies, and intracoronary imaging and physiology.
PCI risk, shock and device choice
Reperfusion in STEMI and invasive strategy in NSTE-ACS sit alongside quality and performance metrics, cardiogenic shock, transradial access and device selection. Peripheral and carotid disease and their interventions are covered in the same stretch.
Case-based lesion subsets
Atherectomy, left main and bifurcation disease, chronic total occlusion, saphenous vein grafts, restenosis and stent thrombosis, and PCI complications — each taught through cases, with a five-faculty panel to finish.
Structural heart and supplemental lectures
Septal defect and PFO closure, alcohol septal ablation, tricuspid and mitral interventions, TAVR, left atrial appendage closure and structural complications. Eight supplemental lectures add board statistics, acute stroke intervention, PAD, cardiac arrest, pulmonic valve and coarctation work, venous intervention and hemodynamic assessment.
Built for
- Interventional fellowsA complete run through the ABIM interventional blueprint in the final year of training.
- Interventional cardiologistsFocused preparation for recertification, heavy on the evidence behind each procedure.
- General cardiologists and traineesA current, procedure-level understanding of what the cath lab can offer their patients.
