Orthodontics or restorations for crowded and malpositioned teeth? Frank Spear’s six-question framework plus practical bite records
When a patient has malaligned anterior teeth, should you move them or restore them? Move Teeth or Restore? Decision-Making for Predictable Alignment answers that with Frank Spear’s six-question system, an interdisciplinary planning framework, and complete case studies, joined by Ricardo Mitrani and Gary DeWood. Six modules, 23 lessons and 5 h 06 min finish with hands-on bite registration: leaf gauge, Lucia jig, bilateral manipulation and protrusive records.

What you’ll be able to do
- Resist the quick-fix veneer case when comprehensive care is the better option
- Work through the six key questions on restorations, occlusion, papillae, gingival margins, contour and endodontic risk
- Recognise when “instant orthodontics” with restorations is a sound choice
- Handle a unilaterally apical papilla or gingival margin
- Take accurate centric relation and protrusive records for simple and complex restorative cases
Inside the course
Why a system matters
Two short opening modules argue for structured treatment planning and introduce a framework — a system within a system — for coordinating orthodontic and restorative care.
The six questions in practice
The central module poses one lesson per question, asking whether the teeth need restoring anyway, whether the bite can be managed without tooth movement, and whether papillae and gingival margins are acceptable, then applies them to a three-part case from data gathering to completion.
Alignment and records
A module on restorative alignment is followed by four compact demonstrations of bite registration tools and a longer module on the records needed for straightforward and complex restorative dentistry.
Built for
- Restorative and cosmetic dentistsA defensible way to decide before preparing crowded teeth.
- Orthodontists collaborating with restorative colleaguesA shared vocabulary for interdisciplinary planning.
- General dentistsPractical bite registration technique that improves everyday lab work.

Before you buy
Does it teach orthodontic mechanics?

Are the lessons long?
Most are short segments; the whole course is about five hours, with the longest modules around 80 minutes.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
