Oakstone Orthopedics for the Non-Specialist 2026 — examine, image, treat or refer with confidence
Oakstone Orthopedics for the Non-Specialist 2026 (also titled Orthopedics for Non-Orthopedists 2026) is written for the clinician who sees the sprained ankle, the painful shoulder or the aching back long before a surgeon does. Across 43 lectures, 44 faculty members, mostly sports medicine physicians with orthopaedic surgeons and therapists alongside, cover the joint-by-joint examination, when to image, what conservative care can achieve and which findings demand a same-week referral. Videos come with PDF handouts.

What you’ll be able to do
- Run a focused examination of each major joint and the spine
- Pick the right study using “what to order and when” imaging guidance
- Weigh surgery against conservative care for meniscal, labral, rotator cuff and instability problems
- Diagnose and manage upper and lower limb fractures, stress fractures and growth plate injuries
- Perform common orthopaedic injections and understand where orthobiologics fit
- Spot red flags and sideline emergencies that cannot wait
Inside the course
The examination block
After a primer on orthopaedic terminology, seven lectures teach hand, wrist and elbow, shoulder, hip, spine, knee and foot and ankle examination as separate skills.
Orthopedics for the Non-Specialist, region by region
Foot, ankle, knee, hip, hand, elbow, shoulder, clavicle and ribs, and the lumbar and cervical spine each get their own diagnosis-and-treatment session, including athletic pubalgia and FAI.
Operate or not?
Five paired talks put a sports physician and a surgeon side by side to debate patellar instability, meniscal tears, hip labral tears, shoulder instability and rotator cuff tears.
The wider toolkit
Fractures, bone tumours, RED-S, the ageing athlete, nerve entrapment, ultrasound, injections, bracing, gait analysis, rehabilitation, nutrition and the mental health toll of chronic pain round out the programme.
