Rebuild a stable occlusion with the OCTA concept — reference plane, VDO, curves of Spee and Wilson, and splint therapy for TMD
Professor Jean-Daniel Orthlieb, who created the OCTA method, teaches Occlusal Architecture to Secure Orthodontic or Prosthodontic Treatments (OCTA Concept and splint therapy) in 22 lessons lasting just over 12 hours. He takes you through eight criteria for reconstructing an occlusion, from choosing a horizontal reference and therapeutic jaw position to setting incisor inclination and occlusal curves, then turns to diagnosing joint and muscle disorders and managing them with exercises and splints.
- 22lessons
- 12 h 13 minof video
- 25Q&A questions answered
What you’ll be able to do
- Establish a horizontal reference plane with a facebow or its alternatives
- Record centric relation with hard wax and verify it with the split-cast technique
- Select a therapeutic position and vertical dimension before a full reconstruction
- Reproduce the curves of Spee and Wilson on the articulator using flags and templates
- Classify articular and muscular TMD and choose between conservative and invasive care
- Decide when an occlusal splint is indicated and follow a stepwise protocol
Inside the course
Vocabulary and stability
Orthlieb begins by clearing up conflicting definitions, then analyses what keeps an occlusion stable: first molar support, shortened arches, transverse contacts, the risk of joint compression and a four-point minimum for stabilisation.
Eight criteria for reconstruction
The core of the course builds the OCTA sequence step by step: reference plane, reference and therapeutic positions, VDO, lower and upper incisor position, occlusal plane and Spee curve, incisal guidance, and cusp height with the Wilson curve. The tangent law links incisor inclination to the geometry of the arch.
TMD without the myths
Five lessons cover diagnostic criteria, psychosocial factors, disc displacement with and without reduction, MRI and condylography, emergencies, and when changing the occlusion of a TMD patient is actually justified.
Two recorded Q&A sessions
Around two hours of questions from clinicians cover Gelb splints, check bites, disc dislocation during orthodontics, Botox, electromyography and asymmetric condylar guidance.

Before you buy
Does it assume prior knowledge of occlusion?
Early lessons revisit definitions, but the course moves quickly into reconstruction planning, so a basic grounding in articulators and centric relation helps.
Are some topics repeated?
Yes. A few items, such as the hinge-axis concept and primary versus secondary TMD, appear in two consecutive lessons.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
