Occlusion in the functional concept of Slavicek — from Angle classes to bruxism and cephalometric planes
Taught by Professor Gregor Slavicek, Occlusion in the functional concept of Slavicek is a compact foundation course: twelve short lessons, about four and a half hours in total. It starts with what “normal” occlusion really means, describes Class 1, 2, 3 and crossbite tooth relations from the buccal and lingual sides, and then turns occlusion into something you can measure — chewing tests, BruxChecker foils, condylographic tracings and occlusal-plane angles on the cephalogram.

What you’ll be able to do
- Tell norm-occlusion from malocclusion using clear descriptive parameters
- Recognise Angle Class 1, 2, 3 and crossbite patterns on both buccal and lingual views
- Make a BruxChecker, read it with DRS BRUX and grade bruxing activity
- Record and interpret condylography, including the Posselt envelope
- Measure occlusal planes, dis-occlusal angle and Curve of Spee on a cephalogram
Inside the course
Vocabulary of the functional concept of Slavicek
Two opening lessons settle the terms — harmony, balance and disharmony, centric relation, and the line between function, reduced function and dysfunction — so the rest of the course has a shared language.
Four malocclusion portraits
Separate lessons examine Class 1, Class 2 and Class 3 relations tooth by tooth, then crossbite with its active and passive arches, laterotrusive movement and active cusps.
Bruxism, chewing and efficiency
Slavicek presents a theoretical model of bruxism, a standardised chewing test and the fabrication of BruxChecker foils, then connects chewing-surface morphology with masticatory efficiency and periodontal consequences.
Instrumental and cephalometric analysis
Condylography recordings of protrusion, retrusion, opening and lateral movements are read alongside muscle, disc and ligament behaviour. Cephalometric lessons cover the gnathologic, upper and posterior occlusal planes, the Orthlieb formula and Curve of Wilson, before a final lesson frames occlusion as part of a cybernetic system with posture screening and the adapted Meersseman test.

Is this the same as the Roth/Kuwata occlusion course?
No. This is an introductory course on the Slavicek school by a single lecturer. The longer “Predictable Functional Occlusion” course (MS-30304) follows Roth and Kuwata with five Japanese speakers and mentions Slavicek only in a final digital lesson.
Which two lessons are the free ones?
The outline counts ten main lessons plus two free ones but does not label which; all twelve are included here.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
