TMJ and dentomaxillofacial radiodiagnostics with Prof. Kaan Orhan — CBCT, MRI, ultrasound, OPG and intraoral films
In OHI-S School of Radiodiagnostics in Dentistry: TMJ & Dentomaxillofacial Radiodiagnostics, oral and maxillofacial radiologist Prof. Kaan Orhan teaches dentists to read every image they are likely to order. Ten lessons and more than thirteen hours begin with the temporomandibular joint — its anatomy, pathology and imaging by CBCT, MRI and ultrasound — then broaden to intraoral and panoramic technique, maxillofacial CBCT and the physics, artefacts and safety of MRI and sonography.

What you’ll be able to do
- Grade disc displacement — with and without reduction, partial, sideways and posterior — on MRI
- Spot effusion, marrow oedema and degenerative joint disease and correlate them across CBCT, MRI and ultrasound
- Recognise developmental condylar anomalies such as bifid and trifid condyles
- Use SLOB, bisecting-angle and Donovan techniques and avoid panoramic ghost and motion artefacts
- Identify cysts, tumours, fibro-osseous lesions, osteomyelitis and MRONJ on OPG and CBCT
Inside the course
The joint first: TMJ radiodiagnostics
Orhan opens with radioanatomy, disc, capsule, retrodiscal tissue and vascular supply alongside muscle palpation and tender points, then catalogues TMJ pathology from displacement and luxation to trauma and cysts with case review.
Modality by modality for the joint
Dedicated lessons introduce conventional films, CT and CBCT with dose and artefacts, TMJ MRI with physics and soft-tissue anatomy, and TMJ ultrasound, including salivary glands, oral floor, lymph nodes and correlation with MRI and CBCT.
Everyday dental radiography
Intraoral lessons cover projection geometry, resolution and distortion, periapical, bitewing, occlusal and paediatric films. The panoramic lesson deals with positioning, digital systems, landmarks, impacted teeth and trauma.
Advanced imaging for the whole region
The last three lessons revisit CBCT hardware and detectors with an OPG comparison, general MRI protocols, contrast agents and safety, and ultrasound probe positioning for dentomaxillofacial scanning.
Built for
- General dentists and implantologistsMore confident reporting of the CBCT and panoramic scans you already take.
- Orthodontists, prosthodontists and functional dentistsJoint imaging to support TMD diagnosis before treatment.
- Oral surgeons and oral radiologistsA radiologist’s approach to jaw lesions and soft-tissue imaging.
- Dental residents and studentsA structured grounding in all five modalities.

Before you buy
Is there overlap between the TMJ and general imaging lessons?
Some. CBCT, MRI and ultrasound each appear twice — first applied to the joint (lessons 3–5), then as general dentomaxillofacial modalities (lessons 8–10) — so certain basics are repeated.
What file size is the download?
File size is not specified; the lessons are HD videos organised one per lesson.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
