Core endodontics taught by Penn faculty — diagnosis, anaesthesia for hot molars, access, shaping, bioceramic obturation and vital pulp therapy
Eight lectures and 11 h 45 min make up Online Foundations of Predictable Endodontic Success: Putting Theory Into Practice, taught by Frank Setzer, Martin Trope, Bekir Karabucak, Meetu R. Kohli and James G. Hupp. The programme links pulp biology to everyday clinical decisions: testing and radiographic diagnosis, profound anaesthesia, finding MB2 and calcified canals, disinfection and apical sizing, hydraulic bioceramic filling, surgical versus non-surgical retreatment, revascularisation of immature teeth and pulpotomy.

What you’ll be able to do
- Reach a sound pulpal and periapical diagnosis using cold, electric and radiographic tests
- Achieve reliable anaesthesia in irreversible pulpitis and prescribe antibiotics conservatively
- Cut straight-line access that finds MB2 and calcified canals without wasting dentine
- Obturate with premixed bioceramic sealers using a hydraulic technique
- Choose between surgical and non-surgical retreatment with CBCT support
- Offer revascularisation and vital pulp therapy instead of extraction or apexification
Inside the course
Getting the diagnosis and the numbness right
The two-hour diagnosis lecture traces how pulpal inflammation progresses and where testing misleads. The anaesthesia session explains the neurophysiology behind failed blocks, injection choices, doses and waiting times for the hot mandibular molar.
From access to fill
Access preparation tools and quality checks lead into a lecture on microbial control in vital versus non-vital teeth, irrigation and apical size. Obturation then moves from gutta-percha and conventional sealers to a bioactive monoblock, demonstrated on a model tooth.
When treatment has failed or the root is immature
Retreatment is taught through real cases involving missed canals and complex restorations, including root-end cleaning and filling during surgery. Revascularisation covers clot induction and antibiotic paste disinfection, while the vital pulp lecture questions the old notion of irreversible pulpitis.
The faculty
Martin Trope has chaired endodontic departments at Temple and North Carolina; Karabucak chairs endodontics at Penn, where Kohli directs continuing education. Setzer focuses on microsurgery and CBCT imaging.

Before you buy
Is this aimed at specialists or at generalists?
It is foundational: most value goes to general dentists and early-career clinicians, though the retreatment and pulp therapy lectures reach specialist level.
Which lecturer teaches which session?
Lessons are not individually attributed to speakers, so you cannot pick a single instructor’s material in advance.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
