Perio care inside a restorative practice — staging, patient coaching, articaine and tooth wear in 36 short lessons
Seven educators — Frank Spear, Kevin Kwiecien, hygienist Kim Miller, periodontists E. Todd Scheyer and Mike McDevitt, Mark Sutor and anaesthesia authority Stanley Malamed — contribute to Periodontics in Restorative Practice: Smarter Diagnosis. Better Outcomes. Its eight modules (7 h 05 min) join the current staging and grading system and occlusal trauma to patient motivation, local anaesthesia techniques and the management of worn dentitions.

What you’ll be able to do
- Stage and grade periodontitis with the current classification and build it into routine exams
- Diagnose occlusal trauma in perio-susceptible patients and explain it clearly
- Coach patients to become their own primary therapist through values, goals and affirmative inquiry
- Decide when articaine infiltration or buffering speeds and deepens anaesthesia
- Use Vazirani-Akinosi, PDL, intraosseous and intraseptal injections when a block fails
- Treat tooth wear with appliances and composite, and discuss it with the patient
Inside the course
The patient as partner
The opening and fifth modules move away from compliance toward collaboration: coaching methods, building on a patient’s past successes, and a fresh look at inflammation and biofilm — questioning whether therapy is really only about bacteria.
Diagnosis for the general office
Short modules cover the link between occlusal trauma and periodontitis, how to implement staging and grading with worked examples, and a four-direction framework for looking at periodontal therapy — top down, bottom up, inside out and outside in.
Anaesthesia that works first time
Two modules on local anaesthesia compare articaine as a sole infiltration or a supplement to the IANB, examine buffering chemistry, and demonstrate alternative mandibular techniques.
Worn dentitions
The last module identifies common wear patterns, when occlusal appliances help, how composite can rebuild lost structure, and how to open the conversation with patients.

Before you buy
Does it teach periodontal surgery?
No — the focus is diagnosis, non-surgical thinking, patient communication, anaesthesia and tooth wear, suited to a restorative office rather than a surgical specialist.
How long are individual lessons?
Most are short: 36 lessons share just over seven hours, so many run around ten to fifteen minutes.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
