Frank Spear on the lone anterior implant — positioning, timing, immediate placement and gingival grafting
Part of Frank Spear’s classic lecture series, SPEAR Classic Collection. Precision Esthetics: Mastering Single Tooth Anterior Implants spends 5 h 26 min on one of the most exacting tasks in restorative dentistry. Nine lessons in two modules deal with three-dimensional position, when to place, congenitally missing laterals, gingival contour control and immediate cases, ending with a full patient story from extraction to crown.

What you’ll be able to do
- Decide on implant position and placement timing for a single missing front tooth
- Handle non-adjacent congenitally missing teeth predictably
- Finalise gingival contours around the restoration
- Take an active restorative role during the surgical phase
- Judge when an immediate implant needs margin augmentation with a pedicled connective tissue graft
Inside the course
Delayed placement fundamentals
The three-hour first module works through position and timing, the special case of missing lateral incisors that are not adjacent, and managing the final soft tissue outline. It closes by defining what the restorative dentist should contribute while the surgeon is working.
Immediate single-tooth implants
Module two lists the criteria for placing at extraction, explains when the gingival margin must be built up, and demonstrates a pedicled connective tissue graft for that purpose.
A case followed start to finish
The final lesson follows one patient, Kristy, through an immediate anterior implant from planning to the finished restoration.
