Jeff Rouse’s staged appliance sequence for airway patients — from nasal breathing to dual-arch advancement splints
In The Seattle Protocol: A Step-by-Step System for Airway Appliance Therapy, prosthodontic educator Jeff Rouse lays out a graded series of appliances for patients with breathing-related problems, escalating only when the previous step fails. Seven modules with 26 lessons, about 5.5 hours, explain each stage, show it chairside and give resolution strategies for the responses you will meet.

What you’ll be able to do
- Start airway patients on nasal breathing therapy and assess the response
- Make a provisional mandibular nightguard and anterior repositioning splint chairside
- Increase vertical dimension with a dual-arch splint when single-arch devices fall short
- Adjust mandibular protrusion in steps and read the patient’s feedback
- Decide when to involve ENT colleagues versus continuing dental resolution
Inside the course
The protocol at a glance
Module 1 outlines the six steps and the reasoning for moving from one to the next; module 2 then demonstrates every appliance chairside, from nasal therapy to the mandibular advancement splint.
Early steps in depth
Foundations, provisional intent and patient selection precede nasal breathing work, then appliances that improve breathing and fabrication of a provisional nightguard, each with control responses and fixes.
Repositioning and dual-arch devices
Later modules cover building an anterior repositioning splint and how protrusion affects the airway, doubling vertical dimension with a dual-arch splint, and varying protrusion with the dual-arch repositioning design.
Built for

Before you buy
Are all six steps given their own module?
Steps 1–5 have dedicated modules; step 6, the mandibular advancement splint, appears only in the chairside demonstration module.
Does it teach sleep study interpretation?
No, it concentrates on appliance selection, fabrication and adjustment rather than diagnostic testing.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
