Removing impacted third molars safely — nerve risk assessment, flap and sectioning choices, piezosurgery and complication rescue
Milan oral surgeons Jason Motta Jones and Angelo Cardarelli combine theory lectures with recorded operations in Wisdom Tooth Extraction, 11 lectures and 5 h 27 min built around Motta Jones’s ReLIVE approach. The course covers position assessment, anaesthesia, incision, odontotomy, instruments and checklists, protection of the inferior alveolar and lingual nerves, and what to do when bleeding, root fragments, dry socket or sinus problems occur.
- 11lectures
- 5 h 27 minof video
- 7recorded surgical cases and demos
What you’ll be able to do
- Grade nerve injury risk from tooth position, root proximity and 3D imaging
- Choose a flap design and a tooth-sectioning plan that matches angulation and root form
- Use piezoelectric bone cutting to protect soft tissue and the lingual nerve
- Remove the dental follicle and inflamed tissue to reduce later infection
- Manage tuberosity fractures and oro-antral communications with a Rehrmann flap or buccal fat pad
Inside the course
Risk before the scalpel
Opening lectures deal with consent, the commonest intra- and post-operative problems and their resolution, anatomical variation of the nerves, risk scoring systems, and pain and infection control after surgery.
Technique, instruments and checklists
Flap options, bone and crown sectioning, socket debridement and suturing are explained, followed by a lecture arguing that surgical and post-operative checklists reduce human error even for experienced operators.
Operations on video
Recorded cases include a standard impacted lower molar, a tooth with deep scar tissue and fibrosis, a lingual-nerve-sensitive impaction, an ostectomy with follicle removal, and a partially erupted molar with curved roots approached with ultrasonic tips.
Upper molars and Cardarelli’s piezosurgery
A lecture on maxillary impactions uses Archer’s classification and covers sinus displacement and fat pad herniation. An additional hour from Angelo Cardarelli discusses conscious sedation, anatomy and piezosurgical root removal.
Built for
- General dentists extending into surgeryCase footage and a risk framework before you take on deeper impactions.
- Oral surgery traineesTwo experienced Milan operators showing their step-by-step routine.
- Clinicians using piezosurgeryPractical examples of ultrasonic tips in difficult third molar sites.

Before you buy
Does it cover lower and upper third molars?
Yes, though most of the recorded surgery is in the mandible; one 35-minute lecture is devoted to maxillary impactions.
Is the Cardarelli hour part of the main sequence?
It is included as additional material alongside the main lectures by Motta Jones.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
