Didier Dietschi on free-hand composite and tooth wear: from natural layering to selective direct-indirect rehabilitation
Geneva clinician Didier Dietschi teaches Bio-Esthetic Adhesive Dentistry in seven lectures totalling about six hours. The first half covers anterior direct bonding — indications, the Natural Layering Concept, esthetic planning and polishing; the second half turns to erosion and attrition, with a preventive, interceptive and restorative ladder for worn dentitions.

What you’ll be able to do
- Decide where direct composite is the right answer in the smile zone, and where it is not
- Match shade with a simplified two-layer Natural Layering build-up
- Plan additive cases with calipers, 2D smile design, digital templates or 3D and a mock-up
- Finish and polish in four steps without erasing surface micro-anatomy
- Grade tooth wear and choose between no-prep interceptive work and indirect restorations
- Raise the vertical dimension with free-hand, molded or hybrid protocols
Inside the course
Anterior bonding, simplified
Dietschi argues that resin composite remains the most reliable, affordable option for Class III–V lesions, post-orthodontic touch-ups, shape changes and composite veneers, and explains why fewer layers mean fewer shade errors.
Planning and the clinical sequence
Analog and digital planning tools feed a wax-up or mock-up; the restorative lecture then walks from dentin and enamel build-up, with an index for larger changes, through a four-stage polish.
A strategy for worn teeth
Erosion, abrasion and attrition are sorted by cause, severity, age, compliance and budget. Limited loss is treated additively without preparation after sandblasting; heavier loss or bruxism moves molars toward stronger indirect materials in a selective, mixed approach.
About Didier Dietschi
Senior lecturer at the University of Geneva and adjunct professor at Case Western Reserve University, he co-wrote “Adhesive Metal-free Restorations” (Quintessence, 1997), later translated into seven languages.
Built for
- Restorative and esthetic dentistsA lean layering method that holds up in everyday anterior work.
- Clinicians seeing more erosion casesA graded plan for wear that avoids unnecessary preparation.

Before you buy
Does it cover posterior composites in general?
Only within wear rehabilitation; the direct bonding lectures concentrate on the anterior esthetic zone.
Are CAD/CAM restorations taught step by step?
Indirect work is discussed as part of treatment strategy for severe wear, not as a full laboratory or milling workflow.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
