Occlusion-driven full mouth rehabilitation with Stephen Phelan — records, risk, equilibration and bonding over 109 hours
Oakville clinician Stephen Phelan built Functional Occlusion Design Dental Seminars around the step-by-step sequence he uses for worn dentitions, smile design and partial or full mouth rehabilitation. Six core modules, four documented patient cases and nine bonus blocks add up to about 110 hours: diagnostic records and articulator mounting, risk assessment, planning changes in vertical dimension, equilibration, conservative preparation, provisionals, bonding porcelain and finishing the occlusion.

What you’ll be able to do
- Take centric relation records with a Lucia jig, leaf gauge or Kois deprogrammer and verify the mounting
- Grade patients with a risk assessment profile for wear, bruxism and dysfunction
- Plan vertical dimension changes and test them before final restorations
- Carry out trial and clinical equilibration on the natural dentition
- Prepare conservatively for veneers and crowns and build long-term provisionals
- Bond full-arch porcelain restorations and refine anterior guidance
Inside the course
From records to a treatment plan
Module 1 produces two sets of accurately mounted diagnostic casts, screens out problematic TMD patients and shows facebow transfer on a SAM 3 articulator; the method suits analog and digital workflows alike. Modules 2 and 3 classify wear, parafunction and appliance choice, then plan high-risk cases where there is no space for restorative material.
Clinical execution
Modules 4 to 6 rebuild compromised teeth, adjust gingival levels, equilibrate live patients over several visits, and cover diagnostic-matrix and traditional veneer preparations, crown and veneer provisionals, try-in, lab communication and a full-length recording of bonding an upper arch that includes an implant.
Cases and bonus library
Four worked cases run from a short two-part review to an eight-part rehabilitation. The bonus blocks revisit the system in depth: a 13-part rehabilitation framework, a 2014 two-day occlusion seminar, an eight-part live course with guided implant surgery, plus dedicated sets on bite records, mounting, equilibration, veneers and dental photography.
