Implant fundamentals from the Italian Academy of Osseointegration — biology, planning, primary stability, soft tissue and socket preservation
Produced by the Italian Academy of Osseointegration (IAO), Fundamentals of Implant Dentistry Course gathers thirteen Italian and Swedish-trained speakers — including Massimo Simion, Giovanni Zucchelli, Tiziano Testori, Daniele Cardaropoli and Cristiano Tomasi — in six modules and 17 lessons (13 h 04 min). It revisits the principles that decide long-term implant success, from peri-implant microbiology and graft predictability to insertion torque, keratinised tissue and ridge preservation.

What you’ll be able to do
- Keep peri-implant tissues healthy through plaque control and professional maintenance
- Judge how predictable a given graft or biomaterial is before relying on it
- Match the surgical protocol and loading time to bone type and implant surface
- Plan, achieve and measure primary stability, including insertion and failure torque
- Thicken keratinised and supracrestal soft tissue surgically and shape it with provisionals
- Select between ridge preservation and socket shield after extraction
Inside the course
Biological ground rules
The opening module looks at why implants fail, how readily peri-implant tissue is colonised by bacteria, and what home and in-office hygiene must achieve. It then weighs bone grafts for rebuilding missing volume against the evidence for their predictability.
Planning and placement
Two lessons set high-profile clinicians’ treatment plans side by side. The placement module stresses respect for bone regeneration biology, surface choice, bone-type-specific drilling and waiting times, with procedures explained step by step.
Stability and soft tissue
Micromovement, mechanical and biological factors and bone-quality diagnosis are linked to practical ways of raising primary stability. The soft-tissue module defines keratinised and supracrestal tissue, explains their effect on hygiene and aesthetics, and shows augmentation surgery and provisional-driven contouring.
Post-extraction sites
The final module covers socket healing and microbiology, biomaterial indications, alveolar ridge preservation and the biological basis and execution of the socket shield technique, contrasting long-followed protocols with newer approaches still awaiting long-term data.

Before you buy
Were the lectures recorded in English?
The speakers lectured in Italian; the course has been fully dubbed into English, so voices are not the presenters’ own.
Is this a hands-on surgical course?
It is a lecture series on principles. Surgical steps are explained, but it does not replace supervised placement training.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
