Esthetic and functional crown lengthening from six periodontists — biologic width, ferrule, lasers and recession
Eight hours of lectures in gIDE – The Art and Science of Surgical Crown Lengthening bring together six periodontal and implant clinicians led by Sascha Jovanovic (full faculty in the specifications). Across eight lessons they cover gummy smile correction, crown lengthening in thick and thin phenotypes, functional lengthening for posterior crowns and bridges, laser-assisted technique and root coverage for gingival recession.

What you’ll be able to do
- Assess gingival phenotype and biologic width before planning esthetic surgery
- Carry out esthetic crown lengthening — incision, flap, osseous recontouring and suturing
- Secure a ferrule and adequate retention on short posterior teeth
- Compare Er,Cr:YSGG laser and conventional approaches for soft and hard tissue
- Select grafts, tunnelling and biomaterials for root coverage
Inside the course
Smile framing
The opening lessons set out how to evaluate gummy smiles and gingival contours, then show scalpel and laser methods, flap design and post-operative care, with restorative cases that combine surgery and ceramics.
Recession and root coverage
One lesson classifies recession defects and discusses how predictable coverage is; the next covers connective tissue grafts, tunnelling, enamel matrix derivative and acellular dermal matrix with a minimally invasive focus.
Gum shortening for restorative success
Two lessons explain why violating biologic width leads to caries, inflammation and dislodged crowns, and how to diagnose and treat posterior teeth that need more clinical crown. A short demonstration covers ten maxillary anterior teeth with microsurgery and laser.
Putting it together
The closing lecture reviews measuring techniques, the timing of restoration after surgery and case-based decision making for a procedure often done poorly.
Built for
- Restorative dentistsKnow when a crown needs surgery first and what to ask of the periodontist.
- Periodontists and surgically active GPsSeveral expert approaches to the same procedure, side by side.

Before you buy
Is it all about crown lengthening?
Mostly — but one full lesson, nearly an hour, is devoted to treating gingival recession.
Is each lesson a separate lecture?
Yes; the lessons are independent presentations by different speakers, so some basics such as biologic width are repeated.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
