Giovanni Zucchelli on root coverage and regeneration around teeth — CAF, V-CAF and the connective tissue wall technique
Bologna professor Giovanni Zucchelli, author of the Quintessence title Mucogingival Esthetic Surgery, presents eight lectures (8 h 30 min) in The Ultimate Journey Into Mucogingival Surgery: Latest Techniques Around Teeth. He covers recessions on upper molars, multiple defects in the esthetic zone and the difficult anterior mandible, how the coronally advanced flap has been refined, and how mucogingival principles can regenerate intrabony defects in the same operation.

What you’ll be able to do
- Grade isolated recessions with a difficulty score before choosing the flap
- Design a multiple coronally advanced flap with triangular papillae and no vertical releases
- Decide when CAF alone is no longer enough because keratinised tissue is under 1 mm
- Treat the anterior mandible with free gingival grafts, the modified two-step technique or a V-CAF
- Harvest palatal connective tissue and position it site-specifically with stable fixation
- Combine periodontal regeneration with soft tissue augmentation using the connective tissue wall approach
Inside the course
Recessions in awkward places
A maxillary first molar with a shallow vestibule opens the course, followed by the anterior mandible, where frenula, thin keratinised tissue and mucosal invaginations limit the options. Zucchelli matches each technique to the operator’s level of experience.
How the coronally advanced flap evolved
Lectures compare older and current CAF protocols — smaller curettes, microsurgical de-epithelialisation of the anatomical papilla, flap rotation mechanics and dimensioning from recession depth — and explain the soft tissue conditioning of edentulous sites before implant surgery.
The vertical variant and the biology behind it
The V-CAF is shown step by step for single and multiple lower recessions as a way to gain depth, thickness and coverage. A separate lecture sets out why autogenous connective tissue remains unmatched and how to manage exposure or overgrowth.
Regeneration through a mucogingival lens
Two long lectures describe clot stabilisation, space maintenance and first-intention healing as the drivers of new cementum, ligament and bone, extending them to complex defects.

Before you buy
Does it cover recessions around implants?
No. The focus is on natural teeth; implants appear only in the lecture on conditioning soft tissue at edentulous sites before placement.
How do the two regeneration lectures differ?
Their outlines are identical; the second is titled for complex defects and runs slightly longer, so expect some overlap between them.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
