Bone and soft tissue grafting as a debate — resorbable membranes, Khoury blocks, titanium and digital mesh compared
Five Italian surgeons — Filippo Fontana, Luca De Stavola, Marco Ronda, Andrea Chierico and Pietro Felice — share the eight lessons of Hard and Soft Tissue Grafting, around eight hours of lectures, clinical cases and filmed surgery. Horizontal and vertical augmentation, flap design and peri-implant soft tissue are each covered, and two head-to-head sessions pit non-resorbable GBR against the Khoury technique and analogue against digitally planned regeneration.

What you’ll be able to do
- Classify a defect as supportive, non-supportive or poorly supportive and pick a technique to match
- Fix and suture resorbable membranes so they stay stable over minor horizontal defects
- Understand the biology and digital planning behind the Khoury autologous bone technique
- Design and close tension-free flaps that heal by primary intention
- Build adequate peri-implant soft tissue thickness and a harmonious gingival outline
- Judge when customised titanium mesh or a digital workflow is worth it
Inside the course
Everyday horizontal defects
Fontana makes the case that fixed resorbable membranes can handle even poorly contained defects with fewer complications than non-resorbable ones. Cutting, shaping, pinning and internal horizontal mattress sutures are demonstrated on one mandibular and one maxillary case with six-month results.
Vertical regeneration in the anterior zone
Ronda treats a severe vertical defect between 14 and 21 with two-stage GBR under a non-resorbable membrane, followed by implants, a connective tissue graft and final prosthetics. De Stavola answers with the Khoury approach using only autologous bone, explaining how clot, provisional matrix and woven bone mature, and how a guided harvest makes the method safer. A debate between them closes the pair.
Flaps and soft tissue
De Stavola shows how tension, not flap thickness, drives dehiscence, and how to plan incisions and closure sequences for upper and lower arches. Chierico works through three anterior scenarios — with and without attachment loss, single and multiple missing teeth — and discusses whether to load immediately after extraction.
Analogue versus digital
Fontana argues the difference is mainly logistical: the membrane is prepared at the chair in one workflow and before surgery in the other. Felice follows with the evolution of custom occlusive and semi-occlusive titanium grids and how they simplify lingual fixation in severely atrophic ridges.

Before you buy
Will I see full surgeries or only slides?
Lectures are illustrated with step-by-step clinical cases and filmed procedures, but each lesson is a presentation rather than an unedited live operation.
Does it overlap with Fontana’s other GBR course?
Only partly: his opening lesson here covers similar resorbable membrane ground, while the other seven lessons come from four different speakers.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
