Erbium lasers in the root canal and beyond: disinfection, resorption, retreatment and fluorescence caries detection
Hong Kong laser researcher Kenneth Luk and laser dentistry practitioner Justin Kolnick present Laser therapy in Endodontics and Restorative Dentistry in four lessons lasting about five hours. Three focus on laser-assisted endodontics — cavitation and shockwave cleaning, refractory cases, resorption, perforations, separated files and single-visit treatment — and the fourth covers fluorescence and imaging tools for finding caries and minimally invasive laser restorative care.
- 4lessons
- ~5 hof video
- 4caries-detection technologies
What you’ll be able to do
- Explain how erbium lasers clean canals through cavitation and shockwaves
- Apply Radial Apical Cleansing and laser preconditioning against biofilm
- Use laser patency, recapitulation and drainage and decompression in difficult canals
- Manage resorption, perforations and separated instruments with laser assistance
- Weigh when single-visit endodontics is appropriate and handle its complications
- Detect early lesions with laser fluorescence, QLF, infrared imaging and DIFOTI
Inside the course
Why lasers change canal disinfection
The opening lesson covers the physics of erbium lasers, histology of apical periodontitis, CBCT in diagnosis and planning, and joint endodontic–periodontal lesion management, closing with case analysis.
Hard cases and complex anatomy
Lesson two applies lasers to refractory disease and challenging canal systems. Lesson three extends to internal and external resorption, the “retro-dontics” idea, retreatment protocols, hidden canals, irrigation and outcome prediction.
Restorative applications
The last lesson surveys fluorescence and transillumination technologies, caries infiltration and laser-based minimally invasive preparation within a biomimetic approach, supported by cases and literature.
The presenters
Luk lectures at the University of Hong Kong’s dental faculty and is active in WFLD, the Academy of Laser Dentistry and AALZ. Kolnick belongs to the Academy of Laser Dentistry and the American Association of Endodontists.

Before you buy
Do I need a specific laser brand to follow along?
No brand is tied to the course; the endodontic lessons centre on erbium wavelengths in general.
How much of the content is restorative rather than endodontic?
One of the four lessons, just over an hour, deals with caries detection and restorative use; the rest is endodontics.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
