Marco Rosa’s case for closing lateral incisor spaces — canine camouflage, biomechanics and finishing across 16 lessons
Agenesis of the upper laterals has been a signature subject for Italian orthodontist Marco Rosa for decades, and Missing maxillary lateral incisors: space closure in all malocclusions vs implants and prosthetic replacement gathers that work into nearly 12 hours of teaching. He compares closing the gap with implants, bonded bridges and other replacements, then walks through the mechanics, canine reshaping, finishing and long-term follow-up in Class I, II and III patients, growing and adult.

What you’ll be able to do
- Weigh space closure against implants using indications, contraindications and known late complications
- Run a stepwise canine camouflage protocol with grinding, bleaching and composite or ceramic work
- Select extraction or non-extraction biomechanics, including push-type mechanics and the Mesialslider
- Finish with controlled torque, premolar and canine vertical position and a stable occlusion
- Manage agenesis combined with Class III, Class II division 2, narrow maxilla or impacted canines
Inside the course
Why close rather than open
The first two lessons review the evidence behind each option, the problems seen with single implants in young patients — infraocclusion, peri-implantitis, buccal bone loss and recession — and the alternatives: resin-bonded bridges, TAD-supported cantilevers, root preservation, autotransplantation and cryopreservation.
Mechanics and growing patients
Rosa explains when lower extractions help, how to move posterior segments mesially, sequential extraction in children and a unilateral closure protocol, then turns to finishing: occlusal plane, periodontal profile, torque and the long-term behaviour of extruded or intruded canines and premolars.
Face, smile and teamwork
Later lessons deal with the risk of a flat profile or narrow smile, orthognathic combinations in hyperdivergent Class III adults, gum contouring, microdontia, multiple agenesis, asymmetry and prosthetic finishing once the spaces are closed.

Is the course neutral between implants and space closure?
Not entirely. Rosa presents the evidence for implants and prosthetics, but his argument clearly favours closing the space and camouflaging the canine where possible.
How current is the material?
The lessons refer to improvements and alternatives as of 2022.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
