Occlusion made practical — Lincoln Harris on bite records, parafunction, splints and raising VDO
Australian general dentist Lincoln Harris, who has run his own practice for close to 25 years, breaks occlusion down into seven video parts in Occlusion Simplified and Managing Vertical Dimension. Across 6 h 30 min he moves from cusps and contacts to forces, centric relation and deprogramming, then to splints, material choice, the Dahl approach and full-arch restorative planning with a changed vertical dimension.

What you’ll be able to do
- Identify the false contacts that drive wear, cracks and fractures
- Deprogram the patient and take reliable centric relation records
- Adjust occlusion selectively and manage clenching and grinding
- Pick the right occlusal splint — protective, diagnostic or palliative — for the problem
- Select and verify a new vertical dimension, including Class III cases and Dahl appliances
Inside the course
What occlusion actually is
Harris begins with tooth anatomy, the loads that act on teeth and why planned adjustment differs from simply grinding high spots, then adds muscle forces, occlusal disease and record-taking.
Parafunction and patient comfort
Parts three and four deal with high- and low-resistance contacts, protecting restorations in bruxers, muscle pain, cracked teeth, and design tools such as mock-ups, leaf gauges and face-bows, including why some denture wearers lack vertical stops.
Splints, temporaries and materials
A dedicated part explains splint types and their diagnostic value, alongside bite registration, provisional restorations and indirect material selection.
Opening the bite and finishing the case
The last two parts assess lip mobility, decide which teeth to build first, flag patients unlikely to tolerate an increase, and carry a design from mock-up to composite veneers, crown preparations and final work.

Before you buy
Does Harris follow a particular occlusal school?
His teaching is practical rather than tied to one philosophy; he covers centric relation, deprogramming and the Dahl concept as tools within everyday restorative care.
Is it suitable if I have never raised a vertical dimension?
Yes; the course builds from basics and addresses VDO selection only after the foundations are in place.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
