Daniele Manfredini’s non-occlusal approach to TMD and bruxism — theory plus twelve chairside videos
In Temporomandibular Disorders and Bruxism, Prof. Daniele Manfredini — author of more than 210 papers on bruxism and orofacial pain — shows how he assesses and treats jaw pain without grinding teeth or repositioning the bite. Nineteen recordings, just under eight hours in total, pair seven theory lectures with twelve real consultations: history taking, palpation, MRI reading, flat night appliances and single-needle arthrocentesis.

What you’ll be able to do
- Apply the current consensus definition of bruxism as a behaviour rather than a disease, and grade it with STAB
- Run the Multiple-P plan: pep talk, physiotherapy, psychology, plates and pills
- Read TMJ MRI for disc position and decide when imaging is really justified
- Carry out single-needle arthrocentesis with saline and hyaluronic acid
- Make, deliver and check a flat night appliance for short-term relief
- Take a focused pain history and recognise burning mouth and neuropathic presentations
Inside the course
Rethinking bruxism and overload
The opening lectures cover the 2018 bruxism definition, sleep versus awake phenotypes, links with sleep apnoea, and the overload model that replaces occlusion as the explanation for joint and muscle symptoms.
Management principles and imaging
Pain control, rest and restored function are framed through orthopaedic medicine and the biopsychosocial model, with guidance on analgesics, relaxants and antidepressants. The imaging lecture works through MRI views, the Tasaki disc classification and dynamic protocols.
Watching the consultations
Twelve short clinical films follow patients with closed lock, open-mouth locking, crepitus, arthrosis without pain, masseter hypertrophy and vague complaints, showing both the conversation and the hands-on steps, including the Bruxapp awareness tool.
About Daniele Manfredini

Before you buy
Does it teach occlusal adjustment or repositioning splints?
No. The approach deliberately avoids occlusal therapy; appliances shown are simple flat splints used alongside behavioural and drug management.
Are some of the clinical videos very short?
Yes. Several run between three and six minutes and show a single step, while the theory lectures run 40 minutes to over an hour.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
