Reading cone beam scans with confidence before placing implants — anatomy, variants, pathology and guided planning from seven specialists
Board-certified maxillofacial radiologist Dania Tamimi opens Understanding CBCT (Cone beam computed tomography) for Implant Dentistry with three lessons on scan anatomy and implant site analysis; a second module of nine lectures follows from six further speakers, including Dale Miles, James Mah and Tony Mecham. Across 12 lessons and 13 h 06 min you review the maxilla, mandible, nasal cavity, sinuses, skull and neck, learn to scroll every slice systematically, and see how cone beam data feeds surgical guides and CAD/CAM.

What you’ll be able to do
- Orient yourself in CBCT planes and grey values and apply reliable interpretation habits
- Recognise normal anatomy and common variants of the oral cavity, nasal fossa and paranasal sinuses
- Assess ridge morphology and disuse atrophy for implant position with occlusion in mind
- Screen whole volumes for incidental pathology in 2D and 3D
- Link cone beam data to surgical guides and CAD/CAM workflows
Inside the course
Tamimi’s anatomy-first module
Structure by structure, with radiographs and diagrams, she covers the maxilla, mandible and osteomeatal complex, alveolar variations that distort implant analysis, anatomy-related errors, how the crest migrates with atrophy, osseointegration on imaging, and planning around pathology.
Principles and interpretation
Dale Miles, who has read more than 18,000 scans, explains what the images actually show. Tony Mecham’s two-part introduction moves from the mouth and sinuses to the skull and neck, and James Mah presents a systematic pathology review plus what to know before buying a unit.
Clinical applications
Nitish Surathu uses scans in implant treatment planning over two lectures, Onur Kadioglu shows uses in orthodontics, and Neal Patel discusses how 3D imaging changes results and patient care.
Built for
- Implant surgeonsAnatomical detail that affects fixture position and nerve or sinus safety.
- Dentists who own or refer for a scannerAccountability for the entire volume, not only the implant site.
- Orthodontists and restorative dentistsInterpretation skills that carry over to other disciplines.
Curriculum

Before you buy
Is it limited to implant planning?
No. Despite the title, several lectures address pathology screening, head and neck anatomy and orthodontic use.
Why does Module 1 show topics instead of lesson titles?
Tamimi’s three lessons are described by their combined programme, so the nine topics are listed rather than individual titles.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
