Vertical, edgeless crown preparation explained by Marco Maiolino — burs, provisionals, die spacing and cementation in 17 lessons
Siracusa general dentist and Tomorrow Tooth co-founder Marco Maiolino teaches Vertical Preparation: Updated Concept for Aesthetic Rehabilitation through the Vertiprep philosophy, planning every indirect restoration from both the periodontal and the prosthodontic side. Its 17 lessons (8 h 45 min) take you from the history and evidence behind vertical margins to flame and batt bur protocols, the inverted shoulder, analogue and digital provisionals, post-and-core decisions, die spacer settings and luting.

What you’ll be able to do
- Prepare teeth with a flame-shaped or batt-shaped bur using the toe-heel concept and avoid common errors
- Choose between edge and edgeless preparation and time impressions immediately or with delay
- Apply the inverted shoulder to protect critical biomechanical zones
- Fabricate and adjust provisional crowns by hand or in exocad, and use them to guide the gingiva
- Decide when a fibre or cast post is still justified in endodontically treated teeth
- Set die spacing and select a luting cement to suit the restorative material
Inside the course
Why vertical — and why not
The opening lessons review how opinion on vertical margins has shifted, weigh the periodontal arguments and literature, and set out the endo-prostho foundations: ferrule, fracture risk, occlusal load and the toughness of tooth versus restorative materials.
Preparation at the chair
Bur choice, axis, enamel conservation, selective dentine removal on anterior and compromised teeth, and emergence profile are demonstrated, finishing with a microscope-assisted model preparation of an upper molar using a red-ring handpiece and calibrated depth notches.
Provisionals and the gingiva
Analogue temporaries for anterior and posterior teeth, a filmed endodontic surgery with retrograde filling followed by crown preparation, and digital provisional design, polishing and delivery show how the temporary margin shapes the tissue.
From lab bench to cementation
Prosthetic space, crown thickness and fracture classification lead into analogue and digital die preparation, frictional versus cement retention, inverted spacer settings and a decision strategy for luting materials.

Before you buy
Are the lessons long?
Most run between 17 and 58 minutes, so the course suits study in short sessions.
Is it limited to anterior esthetics?
No. Posterior crowns, molar preparation and endodontically treated teeth receive as much attention as the esthetic zone.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
