Fetal Echocardiography 2025: Normal and Abnormal Hearts — from the four-chamber view to complex outflow-tract disease
The 2025 Fetal Echocardiography: Normal and Abnormal Hearts programme, released in February 2025, walks through the fetal heart the way a scan unfolds: get a clean image, confirm normal chambers and conotruncal anatomy, then work through every major septal, ventricular, venous and outflow-tract anomaly. Maternal–fetal medicine specialists and pediatric cardiologists teach side by side, so diagnosis always leads on to counselling, delivery planning and postnatal care. Its 39 sessions mix lectures with three live scanning demonstrations, five case presentations and three “name the diagnosis” image-and-clip rounds.

What you’ll be able to do
- Optimise the ultrasound image and apply updated fetal echo guidelines to routine screening
- Screen for congenital heart disease in the first and second trimester, including early-gestation imaging and 3D/4D techniques
- Diagnose VSD, AVSD, hypoplastic left heart and single-ventricle anatomy with a chamber-by-chamber approach
- Recognise TGA, tetralogy of Fallot, DORV and aortic arch anomalies in the outflow tracts
- Work up systemic and pulmonary venous anomalies, heterotaxy and fetal tachyarrhythmia
- Counsel parents, plan delivery and discuss genetics and fetal cardiac intervention
Inside the course
Getting the image right
Opening talks cover image optimisation for cardiac screening, what has changed in the guidelines and normal chamber anatomy, backed by a live session on tuning the machine and a separate tips-and-tricks lecture.
Chamber abnormalities
A five-part series moves from ventricular and atrioventricular septal defects through the abnormal right ventricle and HLHS to single-ventricle physiology, with a standardised method for systemic venous anomalies alongside.
Fetal echocardiography of the outflow tracts
After normal conotruncal anatomy, four lectures tackle transposition, tetralogy, arch anomalies and double outlet right ventricle; heterotaxy and anomalous pulmonary venous return complete the block, with a live full cardiac exam.
Rhythm, management and counselling
Sessions on Sjögren’s antibody pregnancies, tachyarrhythmia, a live rhythm-assessment scan, fetal intervention, genetics, parental counselling and delivery planning, with two panel Q&As and five cases for consolidation.
