AAOP 2022 on video — 21 orofacial pain lectures spanning TMD, migraine, sleep apnea and neuropathic tooth pain
Recorded at the 46th annual meeting, AAOP 2022: American Academy of Orofacial Pain 46th Scientific Meeting gives you 21 lectures and accompanying PDFs, about 15.5 hours in total. Nineteen speakers — Jeffrey Okeson, Joseph McCain, Leonard Kaban, Andrew Charles, Donald Nixdorf and Vitaly Napadow among them — bring dental, surgical, neurological and sleep-medicine viewpoints to the same patient group. Expect case-based sessions alongside research talks on CGRP, neuroimaging and the gut–brain axis.

What you’ll be able to do
- Screen for obstructive sleep apnea and judge when an oral appliance or surgery is appropriate
- Tell primary from secondary headache using red flags and case-based reasoning
- Weigh current evidence for TMD therapies — splints, manual therapy, needling, PRP and stem cells
- Differentiate idiopathic condylar resorption from juvenile idiopathic arthritis in young patients
- Recognise persistent non-odontogenic tooth pain before an unnecessary root canal or extraction
- Add psychosocial screening tools such as the Graded Chronic Pain Scale to routine exams
Inside the course
TMD, myofascial pain and the joint
The first block links neck findings with jaw complaints, reviews systematic reviews on conservative care, and looks at arthroscopic disc repositioning and inflammatory arthropathies. One talk follows an opera singer whose complex TMD improved once cervical and myofunctional work were added.
Headache and migraine alongside jaw pain
Neurologists explain migraine pathways beyond the purely trigeminal model — hypothalamus, adenosine and glutamate signalling — and present newer drug classes and neuromodulation devices. Clinical sessions cover cluster headache, medication overuse, nerve blocks and the indomethacin test.
Sleep and chronic pain
Experimental sleep-deprivation data, insomnia therapy and sex differences in inflammatory response show why poor sleep amplifies pain. Airway talks move from OSA endotypes to hypoglossal nerve stimulation and maxillomandibular advancement.
Neuropathic pain, surgery and the specialty itself
Trigeminal neuralgia is covered from medication through microvascular decompression, rhizotomy and radiosurgery. The closing lectures trace how orofacial pain became a recognised dental specialty and tackle persistent dentoalveolar pain, including where botulinum toxin fits.
Built for
- Dentists running a TMD or pain clinicA year’s worth of the specialty’s current thinking in a single recording set.
- Oral and maxillofacial surgeonsArthroscopy, condylar resorption and orthognathic treatment of OSA are discussed in surgical detail.
- Neurologists, sleep physicians and physical therapistsThe meeting shows how dental colleagues assess the same headache and sleep patients.

Before you buy
Should I expect a stepwise syllabus, or separate lectures recorded at meetings?
It is the lecture programme of a scientific meeting, so each talk stands alone and the speakers’ styles and depth vary from clinical cases to laboratory research.
Is it mainly for dentists?
Much of it is, but several talks come from neurologists, neuroscientists, an ENT sleep surgeon and a neurosurgeon, so some content goes deeper into medicine than a typical dental course.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
