Paolone and Scolavino on adhesive restorative routines — rubber dam, overlays, margin relocation, matrices and fragment bonding
Italian restorative dentists Gaetano Paolone and Salvatore Scolavino, both authors of books on posterior direct composites, built Adhesive Dentistry Procedures as nine single-topic lessons with long clinical clips, 5 h 19 min in total. They move from a simplified rubber dam system through composite and zirconia overlays, bonding choices, deep margin relocation and fragment reattachment to sectional matrices and photography for restorative diagnosis.

What you’ll be able to do
- Isolate predictably with a small set of rubber dam clamps
- Lute composite overlays with pre-heated composite, flowable or dual-cure cement, and decide on sandblasting and silane
- Control occlusal reduction depth when preparing zirconia overlays
- Relocate a cervical margin and reattach a tooth fragment adhesively
- Select sectional matrices for anterior and posterior direct work
Inside the course
Isolation as the starting point
The opening lesson, over an hour, gives rules that are easy to replicate for dam placement and clamp choice, with practical tips for difficult cases.
Indirect partial restorations
Two lessons compare composite and zirconia overlays: material choice, surface treatment, build-up versus preparation order, prep tools and provisionals. Paolone then reviews current adhesive systems and how to avoid postoperative sensitivity, illustrated with cases.
Margins, fragments and matrices
A clinical video shows cervical margin relocation step by step, weighing pros and cons, and another covers fragment reattachment. Matrix lessons handle interproximal anterior margins and a posterior scaffold approach derived from Bichacho’s centripetal build-up that turns a class II into a class I.
Photography for restorers
A short closing clip covers distances, lighting, focus and how to read images for shade and form information.
Built for
- General dentistsTidy up daily adhesive steps that decide whether restorations last.
- Restorative postgraduatesClear, clip-based demonstrations from two university lecturers.
