Sadao Sato and Gregor Slavicek on the functional roots of malocclusion — 23 hours on Class II, Class III, open bite, TMD and splints
In ALMA MATER of Orthodontics: Treating the Cause, not the Consequences, orthodontist Sadao Sato and gnathologist Gregor Slavicek argue that lasting results come from correcting what drives a malocclusion. Twelve lectures across four modules (23 hours) cover the aetiology and treatment of open bite, Class II, Class III and mandibular lateral displacement, alongside oral rehabilitation, bruxism measurement, splint therapy, gnathological instruments, MRI and condylography.

What you’ll be able to do
- Explain the aetiology of Class II and Class III and plan treatment accordingly
- Distinguish the two types of open bite
- Recognise and treat mandibular lateral displacement

Inside the course
Why malocclusions develop
Module 1 (7 h 20 min) sets out general principles of malocclusion, compares two open bite patterns and follows Class III from cause to treatment. Module 4 (6 h 40 min) does the same for Class II and lateral displacement, then turns to orthodontics in patients with TMD.
Function and rehabilitation
Module 2 (4 h 35 min) reviews oral rehabilitation in 2022, bruxism and chewing measurement in daily practice, and current thinking on splints.
Instruments and imaging
Module 3 (4 h 21 min) covers gnathological instrumentation, updates on MRI and condylography, and a case discussion under the Slavicek Concept 4.0.
About the instructors
Sadao Sato has been an active member of the Angle Society since 1992 and teaches with the IDEA faculty in the San Francisco Bay Area. Gregor Slavicek founded Orehab Minds in Stuttgart and holds honorary memberships in Italian and Romanian gnathology and prosthetic societies.

Before you buy
Is this aligned with a particular philosophy?
Yes — it follows the Sato and Slavicek functional approach, which puts the masticatory system and growth patterns at the centre; it is not a bracket mechanics course.
Are the lectures very long?
Twelve lectures over 23 hours means each averages close to two hours.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
