Tight contacts in Class II composites — matrices, deep margin elevation, injection molding and biomimetic layering from four clinicians
Class II cavities in premolars and molars are the whole subject of Contact point: effective posterior teeth direct restoration technique. Marco Maiolino, Gustavo Pasarelli Petris, Gökhan Dokumacıgil and Jorge O’Brien share seven lessons lasting just over eight hours, following the interproximal restoration from isolation and cavity design through matrix choice, deep margin elevation, adhesion and layering to curing and polishing.

What you’ll be able to do
- Raise a subgingival margin with deep margin elevation under rubber dam
- Select and adapt matrix bands, including the matrix-in-matrix approach
- Rebuild proximal walls with the injection molding technique and a spot-weld contact
- Choose adhesives and composites based on enamel and dentin histology
- Restore structurally weak teeth with mono-, bi- and tri-laminar biomimetic layering
- Finish contact and occlusal surfaces with discs, wheels and pastes
Inside the course
Biomimetic groundwork
The longest lesson (2 h 43 min) introduces stress-reduced direct composite, C-factor control, the peripheral seal zone, polyethylene fibre in deep caries and a proposed new classification of restorative procedures.
Margins and matrices
Deep margin elevation is justified with evidence and demonstrated as a two-step protocol that preserves root form, while the preparation lesson compares burs, ultrasonic tips, air abrasion and caries dye.
Filling the box
Injection molding with a Bioclear matrix is contrasted with incremental layering; the Class II protocol lesson then shows incremental, bulk-fill, injectable and stamp techniques on video.
Bond, cure and polish
Etching and adhesive protocols, adhesive generations, monochromatic versus polychromatic builds and a final lesson on polymerisation and finishing sequences round off the programme.

Before you buy
Is local anaesthesia technique taught?
It is mentioned in the course overview, but none of the seven lessons lists it as a topic, so do not expect a dedicated segment.
Does deep margin elevation come up more than once?
Yes — it has its own lesson and reappears in the preparation and Class II protocol lessons, each time from a different angle.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
