TMD care grounded in research, not doctrine — Okeson, Klasser and Gottesman in 11 lessons
If you want jaw-pain treatment decisions that rest on published evidence rather than a single occlusal philosophy, American school of evidence-based treatment of temporomandibular disorders gathers three well-known US voices: Jeffrey P. Okeson, Gary D. Klasser and Lawrence Gottesman. Eleven lessons (11 h 45 min) cover differential diagnosis, causes, joint stability, muscle and intracapsular disorders, splint therapy and the medical conditions that can hide behind facial pain.

What you’ll be able to do
- Tell muscle pain from joint pain and spot heterotopic or referred pain
- Weigh the part played by stress, bruxism and occlusal change in a patient’s symptoms
- Find a musculoskeletally stable condylar position with bilateral manipulation
- Choose when an occlusal appliance will help and when it will not
- Manage disc displacement with and without reduction
- Apply DC-TMD criteria and a structured clinical examination
Inside the course
Okeson on diagnosis and aetiology
The opening lessons classify TMD, test which pain disorders are likely to respond to dental therapy, and look at how PTSD, long-term stress and acute occlusal changes influence the masticatory muscles.
Treatment principles and splints
Myalgia models, Botox for local muscle pain, stabilisation appliances, placebo effects and the doctor-patient relationship are covered, followed by intracapsular disorders and a Q&A on hard versus soft splints, mandibular advancement devices and nerve injury.
Klasser’s examination and classification lessons
Two long sessions build a biopsychosocial view of pain, then detail history taking, palpation, provocative tests, imaging and the RDC and DC-TMD systems, finishing with osteoarthritis and a multi-step management approach.
When systemic disease is involved
The last lesson turns to small fibre neuropathy, genetic testing, joint hypermobility, Chiari malformation and paraneoplastic syndromes that can present as orofacial pain.

Before you buy
Does this overlap with Okeson’s larger TMJ toolkit?
Partly. Okeson’s lessons here cover similar ground on occlusion, pain and appliances, but this course adds Klasser and Gottesman on classification systems and systemic disease.
Is one lesson a question-and-answer session?
Yes, lesson 8 is a recorded Q&A of about 49 minutes on practical treatment problems.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
