Benedict Wilmes on skeletal anchorage — mini-implant mechanics for the cases that resist conventional treatment
In Challenging orthodontic cases: the use of skeletal anchorage, Düsseldorf professor Benedict Wilmes teaches the palatal mini-implant systems he helped popularise across roughly nine hours. Five lectures work through non-compliant molar distalisation and mesialisation, transverse and Class III correction, pre-prosthodontic movements, and the pairing of aligners with mini-implants.

What you’ll be able to do
- Distalise upper molars without patient compliance using palatal mini-implants
- Close space by mesialising molars with the Mesialslider and manage the sinus
- Open the palatal suture with a Hybrid Hyrax Distalizer and the Alt-RAMEC protocol
- Handle transverse discrepancies and Class III with skeletal support
- Combine aligners with mini-implants for two-step treatment of difficult cases
Inside the course
Distalisation and mesialisation
The first two lectures compare mechanics for driving molars back or forward — Beneslider, Pendulum, T-Mesialslider — with mini-implant positioning, direct versus indirect anchorage and combinations with aligners.
Transverse problems and Class III
Suture opening with facemask and Hybrid Hyrax, the Alt-RAMEC protocol, MARPE in adults, and skeletal solutions for maxillary constriction and Class III malocclusion.
Pre-prosthodontic and difficult cases
Molar uprighting and intrusion, forced eruption and root extrusion, PDL distraction for ankylosis, and a two-step protocol that blends aligners with skeletal anchorage.
