Early treatment through vertical control — overlays, utility arches and Gummetal wires for Class II, Class III and mandibular shift
Roberto Velasquez Torres, a long-time student of Sadao Sato and a leading voice for MEAW/GEAW mechanics in Latin America, teaches Early Malocclusion: POP, Vertical & Gummetal in four lessons of close to two hours each, 7 h 10 min in total. His approach to young patients centres on vertical dimension and occlusal plane control: metal overlays, the Double Arch Wire, transpalatal bars and utility arches, with Gummetal wire in later phases.

What you’ll be able to do
- Judge the right developmental window for starting overlay-based therapy in mixed dentition
- Correct Class II early with overlays, the Double Arch Wire and utility arch bends
- Separate high-angle and low-angle Class III and choose vertical or horizontal first-phase mechanics
- Diagnose mandibular lateral displacement in three dimensions and treat it early
- Protect the TMJ while changing the bite in growing patients
Inside the course
Growth, adaptation and the first molar
The opening lesson covers how malocclusion develops across primary, mixed and permanent dentitions, Leeway space, canine guidance, the retrusive guide, condylar adaptation and current views on condylar growth — then introduces overlays for vertical control and reverse overjet.
Class II step by step
One-phase versus two-phase treatment, TMJ adaptations, the retrusive barrier and molar morphology, and a hands-on segment on bending the Double Arch Wire and utility arch before combining them with overlays and Gummetal.
Class III by facial type
For hyperdivergent patients: growth risk factors, early third molar removal, transpalatal bar and utility arch activation. For hypodivergent patients: vertical compensation with overlays, then Gummetal in phase two.
Lateral mandibular shift and TMD
Drawing on his CBCT doctoral research at Kanagawa Dental University, the author explains how the displacement arises, its signs, and correction with overlays and utility arches in patients with joint symptoms.

Before you buy
Is this a general introduction to interceptive orthodontics?
No — it follows one specific school, built on overlays, occlusal plane control and MEAW-style wire mechanics, so it suits clinicians willing to adopt that framework.
Are wire bends demonstrated or only described?
The Class II, Class III and lateral displacement lessons each include practical bending instruction for the Double Arch Wire or utility arch.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
