Running a dental practice as a business — patient retention, block scheduling, no-shows and hiring with Laura Nelson
Practice management consultant Laura Nelson brings more than 20 years of front office experience to Dental Clinic Management: Maximizing Business Potential. Six lessons and 8 h 30 min of teaching deal with the non-clinical side of a practice: how patients are welcomed and kept, how the appointment book is structured, how cancellations are handled, how the team talks to each other, and how new staff are recruited and onboarded.

Inside the course
Patients who come back
The opening lesson looks at why people leave a practice, the five components of good service, phone handling and how to present a treatment plan so the patient understands it. Three leadership basics for internal communication round it off.
Time, schedule and productivity
Two lessons tackle task delegation, morning huddles, the trade-off between production and patient numbers, and the IMPACTS factors behind a poorly run appointment book. Reactivating dormant patients and classifying cancellations are covered with practical fixes.
Team communication and recruitment
Nelson explains common sources of workplace conflict and eight tactics for hard conversations, then moves to defining practice culture, profiling the ideal candidate, sourcing applicants, phone screening, interview questions and avoiding typical onboarding mistakes.
