Orthodontic biomechanics from first principles — forces, equilibrium and appliance bending in 30 lessons
Brazilian researcher Gustavo Gameiro teaches Introduction to Orthodontic Biomechanics: From Principles to Practical Application, a 4 h 50 min course of 30 lessons in six modules, with four supporting PDFs. Using typodont and finite-element simulations, it builds from the biology of tooth movement and force fundamentals to equilibrium diagrams and the bending of real appliances for expansion, uprighting, protraction and intrusion.

What you’ll be able to do
- Explain the biology of orthodontic tooth movement and ideal force
- Work with centre of resistance, moments and rotation
- Recognise static equilibrium and the six appliance geometries
- Build equilibrium diagrams and choose preactivations
- Bend a transpalatal bar, lingual arch and intrusion arch
- Solve transverse, sagittal and vertical molar problems
Inside the course
Biology and force fundamentals
Opening modules cover why biomechanics matters, bone modelling and remodelling, the phases of movement and ideal force, then the attributes of force, centre of resistance, moments and equivalence.
Equilibrium and planning
Further modules apply Newton’s laws to recognise static equilibrium, classify appliance systems and the six geometries, then teach equilibrium diagrams, preactivation choices and clinical case analysis.
Making the appliances
The practical module walks through bending a transpalatal bar, lingual arch and occlusal splint, and solving molar expansion, derotation, uprighting, protraction and intrusion with three-piece mechanics.
About the instructor
Gameiro teaches in southern Brazil, holds doctorates in both physiology and orthodontics from UNICAMP, and completed a post-doctorate in Aarhus, Denmark.

Before you buy
Is this too basic for a practising orthodontist?
It is pitched as an introduction, but experienced clinicians use it to consolidate the scientific fundamentals behind everyday appliances.
What are the PDFs?
Four downloads accompany the videos, including a concepts summary, an exercise, a force-quantification sheet and a Spanish-language reference with links.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
