Giulio Rasperini on regaining interproximal attachment — eleven papilla and regeneration techniques, from MPPT to the soft tissue wall
Giulio Rasperini, co-author of several of the flap designs he teaches, uses Next-Gen Periodontal Regeneration: Interproximal Attachment Rebuild to connect intrabony defect regeneration with mucogingival surgery. Across 14 lessons and roughly 11 hours 20 minutes, he traces papilla surgery from Takei’s early preservation flap to MIST, M-MIST, the single flap approach, entire papilla preservation, his own soft tissue wall technique and VISTA, then shows how phenotype correction and connective tissue grafts fit into the same operation.

What you’ll be able to do
- Stage and grade periodontitis using interproximal attachment loss and papilla anatomy
- Select the right papilla preservation flap for a narrow or wide interdental space
- Use enamel matrix derivative with a minimally invasive flap instead of a membrane
- Apply the soft tissue wall technique when the papilla must be raised, not merely preserved
- Combine regeneration with coronally advanced flap, tunnelling and connective tissue grafts
- Assess tissue phenotype before choosing grafts or matrices
Inside the course
Diagnosis and the non-surgical option
Rasperini defines interproximal attachment, links it to the current classification, and explains how papilla shape predicts healing. Flapless therapy comes first, with instrument and biomaterial choices matched to phenotype, before horizontal bone loss cases and the question of a second surgical stage.
The evolution of flap design
Lessons three to six follow guided tissue regeneration from Takei’s papilla preservation and Cortellini’s modified and simplified versions, with resorbable and non-resorbable membranes, to his own EMD protocol from 1999. Gels then made smaller flaps possible: Wachtel’s approach, MIST, the single flap approach, M-MIST and Aslan’s laterally moved entire papilla.
Raising the papilla and improving phenotype
The soft tissue wall technique and early research on 3D-printed scaffolds open a new goal — coronal gain rather than maintenance. Mucogingival concepts are then transferred to regeneration, with VISTA and furcation cases showing defect fill and thickening in one step.
Clinical videos and discussions
Two surgical videos show a tunnelled papilla reconstruction on 21–22 following Takanori Suzuki’s protocol, and entire papilla preservation combined with tunnelling on 32–33 in a thin-phenotype patient. Three recorded case discussions with Rasperini round off the programme.

Before you buy
How much of the course is surgical video?
Two lessons are dedicated clinical videos; most others are lectures illustrated with case photographs, plus three recorded Q&A-style case discussions.
Is it suitable for someone new to periodontal surgery?
It is pitched at periodontists of any experience level, but assumes familiarity with basic flap surgery and periodontal terminology.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
