Staging, grading and scaling done properly — Elena Calciolari on the 2017 classification, steps 1–2 of therapy and supportive care
Periodontist and senior clinical lecturer Elena Calciolari turns current guidelines into daily routine in Non-Surgical Periodontal Therapy and Minimally Invasive Protocols. Across five lessons and 7 h 17 min she explains the 2017 classification of periodontal and peri-implant diseases with practical algorithms, the biology and expected results of non-surgical instrumentation, how to choose and use hand and ultrasonic instruments, and how to organise supportive periodontal care.

What you’ll be able to do
- Assign stage and grade to periodontitis with a step-by-step algorithm
- Define periodontal health, gingivitis and peri-implant disease by the current criteria
- Deliver step 1 and step 2 therapy and set realistic expectations with patients
- Judge the evidence for adjunctive therapies alongside instrumentation
- Combine curettes, scalers and ultrasonics in a minimally invasive protocol
- Schedule recall visits on evidence and share tasks between hygienist and periodontist
Inside the course
Making the new classification usable
Two lessons trace how periodontal diagnosis evolved, what the 2017 system changed, and how to work through staging, grading and other periodontal conditions quickly at the chair.
The science behind non-surgical therapy
The longest lesson explains why steps 1 and 2 work, compares published instrumentation protocols, sets out the limits of a non-surgical approach and reviews adjuncts on the evidence.
Instruments and maintenance
Calciolari describes the design features of supra- and subgingival instruments before presenting her minimally invasive protocol, then closes with the evidence behind supportive care and team roles in recall.
About Elena Calciolari
She holds a master’s in periodontology from Siena and a PhD, has been an Osteology Expert Council member since 2019 and has written peer-reviewed papers and book chapters.

Before you buy
Is periodontal surgery included?
No. The course stops at non-surgical care and maintenance; surgical steps of therapy are outside its scope.
Would my hygienist benefit too?
Yes, the instrumentation and supportive care lessons speak directly to hygienists and to how work is shared in the team.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
