Borderline and atypical orthodontic cases with Bakr Rabie — Herbst therapy, autotransplantation, bone loss and relapse control
Former University of Hong Kong professor Bakr Rabie delivers Predictable Orthodontics: Function, Transplantation, and Retention as eight long lectures, about 13 hours in total. He targets the cases that rarely fit a textbook: skeletal Class II in growing and mature patients, pseudo Class III, adults with horizontal bone loss, transpositions solved by autotransplantation, mandibular asymmetry, retention planning and root resorption risk.

- 13 hof video
- ~1.5 hper lecture
What you’ll be able to do
- Set mandibular advancement targets for the Herbst appliance and reactivate it correctly
- Tell a functional (pseudo) Class III from a skeletal one and choose early or camouflage therapy
- Plan tooth movement in adults with horizontal bone loss, using intrusion, grafts and Emdogain
- Sequence autotransplantation for transpositions, bimaxillary protrusion and retained molars
- Build a retention plan tailored to relapse risk, growth and incisor disocclusion
- Limit root resorption through force control, records and consent
Inside the course
Growth guidance and functional appliances
Early intervention, vertical maxillary control, space creation and serial extraction open the course. Two lectures then examine Class II correction: advancement biology and Ihh protein expression, Herbst design and storage, age limits in adults, TADs, and Herbst therapy weighed against surgery.
Class III, periodontally compromised adults and transplanted teeth
Differentiating false Class III, camouflage indications, preventing recession during movement, moving a displaced canine into an incisor site, intruding groups of teeth to regenerate bone, and autotransplantation built on reciprocal induction — with a hands-on closing loop bending demonstration.
Stability and root health
Retention covers soft tissue forces, contact integrity, rotation, sex differences, fibrotomy and the RAATS protocol; the final lecture uses Malmgren’s classification, radiographic signs and force moments, including aligner cases at risk.
About Bakr Rabie
Trained and awarded a PhD at Northwestern, he founded an institute of graduate orthodontics, co-founded CloudOrtho and has practised in Hong Kong, Beijing and the Middle East.

Before you buy
Is it suitable for general dentists starting in orthodontics?
It assumes orthodontic training; the material is pitched at specialists handling complex or borderline treatment.
Does the course lean on one appliance system?
The Herbst appliance gets detailed attention and brackets, TADs and aligners are discussed, but the emphasis is on biology and decision making rather than one product.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
