Where to put the margin and how to shape the emergence — Gianluca Paniz on soft tissue around crowns and implants
Tufts-trained prosthodontist Gianluca Paniz, whose PhD examined how gingiva responds to different margin designs, teaches Prosthesis and Tissues in ten lectures totalling 7 h 02 min. The course deals with fixed prosthodontics in the aesthetic zone: supragingival, intrasulcular and vertical margins on teeth, emergence profiles and abutments on implants, impression and tissue-transfer protocols, and restorative material choice.
- 10lectures
- 7 h 02 minof video
- ~40 minper lecture
What you’ll be able to do
- Decide between supragingival, equigingival and subgingival margins for each clinical situation
- Use margin depth and restorative contour to correct gingival scalloping
- Weigh vertical against horizontal preparation using long-term outcome data
- Retract tissue for impressions with single or double cord techniques
- Shape and transfer an implant emergence profile for single and multiple units
- Pick abutment and crown materials that support stable peri-implant tissue
Inside the course
Margins on natural teeth
Four lectures follow the margin from above the gingiva into the sulcus: when fractures, caries, root discoloration or a new gingival line demand subgingival placement, how periodontal tissues react, surgical and prosthetic ways to move the scallop, and the soft tissue stability that vertical preparation can offer — together with its risks.
Impressions and the laboratory
How to capture the finish line and subgingival profile, and conventional protocols for timing, materials and master casts, with special attention to relaying customised peri-implant information to the technician.
Implant prosthetics for tissue stability
Emergence profile design, prosthetic factors that protect hard and soft peri-implant tissue, and material selection. A final lecture compares vertical and horizontal preparations head to head. Provisionals and mock-ups are used throughout as tissue-shaping tools.

Before you buy
Is digital impression workflow covered?
The impression and transfer lectures focus on conventional techniques; digital scanning is not presented as a main topic.
Does it favour vertical preparation over shoulders?
No — Paniz presents both philosophies with their indications, and the closing lecture is a direct comparison.
Do I get CME credit or a certificate?
No. Clinicapedia provides the educational content only — no CME or CE credits, MOC points or certificates of completion are included with this product.
