Straight wire orthodontics for the general dentist — archwire sequencing, bracket placement and mixed dentition with Robert Gerety
Robert G. Gerety, who has taught orthodontics to general dentists since 1976, delivers Straight Wire Concepts: Diagnosis and Technique as a 14 h 26 min video programme with PDFs. Five sections move from cephalometric tracing and treatment planning through wire-by-wire mechanics, banding and bonding, crossbites, reverse face mask, impacted cuspids and molar uprighting, ending with hands-on typodont project videos.

What you’ll be able to do
- Trace and interpret a cephalogram and turn it into a treatment objective
- Sequence archwires from .0175 twisted to .019 x .025 braided to level, align and torque
- Place bands, brackets and molar bonds directly and ligate wires correctly
- Intercept anterior and posterior crossbites and use a reverse face mask in mixed dentition
- Manage palatally impacted cuspids and upright tipped molars
Inside the course
Wire techniques and the multi distalizing arch
The longest section works through Technique 1, Technique 2 and its variants with round and square wires, a two-part segment on the multi distalizing arch appliance, and six case presentations.
Diagnosis, options and appliance placement
Gerety sets out how to reach a diagnosis, compare treatment options and summarise objectives, then shows band, bracket and direct bond placement, interceptive treatment and typodont preparation.
Finishing mechanics and special problems
Step-in and step-out bends, cuspid retraction, individual root torque, posted rectangular wires with Pletcher springs and elastics lead into mixed dentition crossbite and face mask cases, impacted canines and molar uprighting. A shorter section revisits mixed dentition indications with three cephalometric tracing exercises.
Typodont project videos
Twenty practical clips cover direct band and bracket placement, ligation methods for .0175 and .016 wires, posted and braided wires, a nitanium palatal expander, lip bumper, bonded lower lingual retainer and a dental VTO.
