Direct or indirect, bonded or full coverage? Pratiek Gupta’s 4C framework for structural decisions, contacts and contours
Hyderabad clinician Pratiek Gupta builds Mastering Tooth Structure: The 4C Concept, Contacts & Contours around his own decision model — Contacts, Contours, Coverage and Conservation. Two long sessions totalling 9 h 30 min combine structural analysis with live demonstrations of selective caries removal, deep margin elevation, immediate dentin sealing, onlay and overlay preparation, fibre-reinforced composite and injection overmolding.

What you’ll be able to do
- Analyse the remaining tooth structure and match it to a restoration type
- Choose between direct and indirect, bonded and full-coverage options with a clear rationale
- Decide on bonding versus luting for each indirect piece
- Perform deep margin elevation or adaptation and immediate dentin sealing consistently
- Create predictable proximal contacts and contours front and back
- Manage cracked teeth and deep caries conservatively, including a modified Hall approach
Inside the course
Session one: structural analysis (5 h)
Gupta explains how the 4C model turns an assessment of the damaged tooth into a treatment choice, then demonstrates selective caries removal, DME, IDS and a comparison of traditional and modern onlay and overlay preparations.
Session two: contacts and contours (4 h 30 min)
The focus moves to proximal form: when DME or DMA is the better option, reliable IDS and DME execution, placing fibre-reinforced composite, conservative crack management, injection overmolding and a modified Hall technique for very deep lesions.
